N°1 - La Cendrillon

N°1

  • Decanter World Wines Awards Gold Medal (95 pts)
    N°1 2012

  • Robert Parker note 2016 92/100
    N°1 2012

The best vintage yet for this cuvee (in the same realm of the 2010), the 2012 Corbieres N°1 is a smokin' blend the includes the best parcel of Syrah on the estate, followed by smaller parts of Grenache, and if it's good, a portion of Mourvèdre. (...) it possesses an elegant, medium-bodied, silky style as well as beautiful notes of graphite, black raspberries, spice-box and crushed flowers. Shinning more for its purity and elegance than raw power, it's perfectly balanced, has notable purity and freshness, and moderate tannin on the finish - all of which should bode well for it evolving nicely over 7-8 years.

  • Robert Parker note 2015 90/100
    N°1 2011

The top wine of the estate, the 2011 Corbières N°1 is a smoking blend of 60% Mourvedre, 30% Syrah and 10% Grenache that spent 1 month in 40% new demi-muids. Pure, layered and clean, with impressive aromas and flavors of black raspberry, cassis charred toasted and salty minerality, it is medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated on the palate, with superb purity of fruit and ample tannin on the finish. More than a little impressive, it is a serious bottle of wine that will have upwards of a decade of longevity.

  • Robert parker note 2015 92/100
    N°1 2010

The 2010 Corbières No1 is a smoking wine from this estate. A step up over the 2011. Deep, ripe, textured and beautifully balanced, it offers up a thrilling array of cassis, melted licorice, liquid smoke and toast on the nose. While a big, wine, it stays remarkably clean and lively, with low acidity, excellent purity and a great finish. There’s around 5,000 produced and it should drink nicely for another 5-6 years or so.

    N°1 2010

« …. La Cendrillon 2010 has a pretty garnet colour, graceful and limpid. Her fragrance is a subtle blend of small red berries and smoky barrel. Slender and round at the same time; the woody notes are parts of her charm. In a few months, she will be very appealing. »

    N°1 2008

"La Cendrillon (Cinderella) 2008 is made from 60% Mourvèdre and 40% Syrah, harvested by hand and vinified with great care as benefitting a princess. After a 18 months gentle, deep sleep in barrel she wakes up refreshed, wearing a velvet dress with some stylish accessories of brioche and garrigue. She has a long reign ahead of her because her attributes are elegant and very smooth. For a cuvée of such pedigree, we would cook some refined game. A hare à la royale for example ! »

    Inédite 2012

Just slightly less impressive than the 2010, the 2012 Corbières Inedite (...) checks in as 50% Syrah, 35% Grenache and 25% Mourvèdre, all from clay and limestone soils, that was completely destemmed and aged ll in larger oak foudre. Crème de cassis blackberries, peppery herbs and underbrush all flow to a medium to full-bodied, concentraded and gorgeously pure Corbières that has more focus and freshness than most in the vintage. There's certainly no harm in drinking a bottle today, but it will keep nicely for 5-8 years.

  • Robert Parker note 2015 91/100
    Inédite 2011

Seeing a slightly different elevage than the 2012, with the aging occuring in a mix foudre, stainless steel and tronconique tanks, the 2011 Corbières Inedite offers, again, terrific purity and freshness in its bouquet of black raspberries, dried herbs, licorice and cured meats, even with a touch of graphite. Showing the warmer nature of the vintage in its forward, seductively fruited personlaité dring this beauty over the coming 4-5 years.

Intense nose full of fruity notes, fresh raspberry, wild strawberry, hints of violet and soft spices, generous mouth, charming, with a lot of intensity and brightness on the finish.

  • Guide Parker 2015 93/100
Inédite 2010 : rated as the best Corbières tasted.

A step up on the richness scale, the 2010 Corbières Inédite got a big “wow” in the notes. Deep, rich and textured, with blockbuster notes of cassis, sweet plum, melted licorice and roasted herbs, it’s full-bodied, layered and decadent on the palate, with no hard edges and tons of fruit. Deeply colored, with a stacked mid-palate, this beauty stays lively and fresh, and is always a joy to drink, enjoy bottles through 2020.

« Bottle of the week. In the heart of the Cathar country : Ornaisons, 1200 souls, a castle and an estate, Domaine de La Cendrillon, where the owners have been growing vines since 1750. As the production was formerly sold in bulk, we only started to find bottles on our tables in 1998. Robert Joyeux succeeded his father, as leader of the property, in 1993. Until then, because of his career, he could not give it as much time as he wished. Indeed, as CEO of Faiveley Industry, hand in hand with François Faiveley, Robert Joyeux ardently worked for getting the company on its feet again. These two men had a passion in common. When François invited him to taste the wines from his family estate in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Robert rightly spoke in praise of his terroir in Corbières. Often held in contempt, or ignored at best, these wines from Corbières, like those from La Cendrillon, can be amazing. The white 2012 (100% organic) made from 90% Maccabeo is fresh and ethereal. The cuvée Classique Red offers a magnificent explosion of red fruits, cherry and black berry. The cuvée Inédite made from Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan exhales notes of wild myrtle, black olive, blackcurrant and garrigue. The mouth is unexpectedly fresh, soft and silky: a great wine. »

Deeper and richer than the 2012, the 2011 Corbières Classique is a superb effort, as well as a notable value. Easy drinking and forward, it still is impeccably balanced and has a seamlessness that makes you want to take another sip. Buy this beauty by the case and enjoy it over the coming 4-5 years or so.
