N°1 - La Cendrillon

N°1

  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate 2018 91-94/100 | Top 5 Corbières
    N°1 2015

The 2015 Corbières No. 1 was yet to be bottled, but it already looks to be a stunning wine. It's 44% Syrah, with the balance equal parts Grenache and Mourvèdre. It spends 24 months in foudre (20% is aged in barrel), so it shows only subtle vanilla shadings over hints of garrigue and mixed berries. Despite the extended élevage, the wine is fresh, juicy and mouthwatering, loaded with vibrant fruit that lingers elegantly on the finish. It's pricey for the appellation, but it's clearly one of the best wines to emerge from Corbières.

Ranked #5 among 60 wines reviewed in Corbières

  • Decanter World Wine Awards 2020 Silver Medal | Top 2 Corbières

Splendidly layered with wild herbs, scented tobacco and spiced berries; plush and seamless with refreshing acidity and a long finish.

(DE) 2015 »CUVÉE N°1« CORBIÈRES AOC, Domaine La Cendrillon
AB.

  • Jancis Robinson 17/20
    N°1 2014

Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah. Certified organic. A little bloody, raw red fruit – comes punching in on the nose. Lots of big red fruit, pure, refined, yet no holds barred in a trumpet celebration of ripeness. Slipped into silk-stocking tannins. So silky. Palate is better than the nose. Cool and beautifully shaped. (TC)

  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate 2017 93/100 | Top 4 Corbières
    N°1 2014

The top cuvee of the estate, the 2014 Corbières No1 is a foudre-aged blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. Just bottled a month prior to this tasting, it certainly wasn’t showing any ill effects and sported a vibrant inky color, as well as terrific notes of cassis, violets, spice and a hint of graphite. With full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannin and gorgeous purity of fruit, this is a sensational Corbières (I might even be underrating it) that's up with the top wines of the vintage.

Ranked #4 among 87 wines reviewed in Corbières

  • Guide Hachette 2018 1 Star | A superb wine
    N°1 2014

    N°1 2012

60% Mourvedre, 30% Syrah, 10% Grenache. An evolved and expressive bouquet of earthy and cocoa powder notes. Showing understated elegance with black olive, tobacco leaf, juicy black fruit, chocolate and mineral. Complex, stylish and interesting with lots of potential.

  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate 2016 92/100
    N°1 2012

The best vintage yet for this cuvee (in the same realm of the 2010), the 2012 Corbieres N°1 is a smokin' blend the includes the best parcel of Syrah on the estate, followed by smaller parts of Grenache, and if it's good, a portion of Mourvèdre. (...) it possesses an elegant, medium-bodied, silky style as well as beautiful notes of graphite, black raspberries, spice-box and crushed flowers. Shinning more for its purity and elegance than raw power, it's perfectly balanced, has notable purity and freshness, and moderate tannin on the finish - all of which should bode well for it evolving nicely over 7-8 years.

This was another terrific lineup from the Joyeux family and winemaker Julien Maurs.

  • Jancis Robinson 17/20
    N°1 2012

    Certified organic. Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache.
Wild cassia and nutmeg, intensely aromatic and spicy. Quite a lot of development on the palate, compared with the 2014 tasted alongside. The fruit is deeper, sweeter, concentrated, more compote and brûléed, cooked damsons and prunes, a hint of autumn leaf mulch, something darker and more earthy running below the surface. Warm but not fiery. Despite all that, the Cendrillon freshness and cleanness persists and pulls long. A wine for winter dishes, slow-cooked beef short ribs, or duck breast. (TC)

    N°1 2010

60% Mourvedre, 30% Shiraz, 10% Grenache. Mineral, violets, spice and blueberry classy, vibrant nose. Creamy red fruit on the palate with a very fleshy, velvety texture. Beautiful savoury flavours with a good length and fine tannins. Sauve and racy this is an excellent wine.

  • Guide Hachette 2014 2 stars | Outstanding
    N°1 2010

Minty, slightly funky and then, oozing slowly out the glass, the rich aromas of blackberry jam. It tastes exactly how it smells. Luscious fruit verging on jammy but with this skein of mint and dried herbs lifting it into the air. As extravagantly weighty on the palate as the bottle is on the scale. But balanced, pulling the fullness off with grace. Beautiful finish, tailored with fine stitches, the tannins almost, but not quite, melting into the palate and bringing a refined length to the wine.

The foudre-aged 2015 Corbières Inedite is a notch less concentrated and ripe than the impressive No. 1. The garrigue here comes across as slightly green and resiny, nicely complementing the mixed berry fruit. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with decent length and a finish dominated by menthol and rosemary notes.

  • Jancis Robinson 17/20
    Inédite 2014

    Certified organic. Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache.
Charred mulberries and black-berried sweetness on the nose. Stupendous darkly ripe intensity on the palate with a hint of coffee and black chocolate. Velvety tannins – determined and with an iron spine but velvet-clad. Hint of metal. Deep and determined and ripe and rich and dark. Touch of burnt cloves. Stunning. (TC)

Serious and structured in style. Red fruit and a peppery, spicy note from the Syrah (60%). Rounded attack with a little mid-palate sweetness, then a menthol-fresh finish.

Hautement recommandable.

  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate 2017 94/100 | Top 1 Corbières
    Inédite 2014

Wow, the 2014 Corbières Inedite is a killer wine! Made from 50% Syrah, 35% Mourvèdre and 15% Grenache and raised in larger foudre, it offers abundant notes of blackberries, cassis, crushed flower and spice. Rich, full-bodied, ultra-pure and seamless, with beautifully integrated acidity and tannin, it's already hard to resist, but should cruise for a decade.

Bravo !

  • Guide Robert Parker Wine Advocate 2016 92/100
    Inédite 2012

Just slightly less impressive than the 2010, the 2012 Corbières Inedite is the top cuvee of the estate and checks in as 50% Syrah, 35% Grenache and 25% Mourvèdre, all from clay and limestone soils, that was completely destemmed and aged all in larger oak foudre. Crème de cassis, blackberries, peppery herbs and underbrush all flow to a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and gorgeously pure Corbières that has more focus and freshness than most in the vintage. There’s certainly no harm in drinking a bottle today, but it will keep nicely for 5-8 years. This was another terrific lineup from the Joyeux family and winemaker Julien Maurs.

  • Jancis Robinson 16/20
    Inédite 2011

50% Grenache (30+ years old), 40% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, 5% Carignan (40+ years old) planted on clay-limestone terraces above the Orbieu river in the far north east of the appellation. Old vines' grapes are vinified in tronconic vats, the rest in stainless steel. 18 months élevage. Notably heavy bottles. Mid cherry red with a tinge of charcoal on the finish but lots of Grenache sweetness upfront. Obviously a very ripe vintage. Already very drinkable but a little like a collection of elements rather than a beautiful whole. Though certainly opulent and very sweet for a Corbières.

  • Bettane & Desseauve 2016 14/20 | Coup de Coeur
    Inédite 2011

Intense nose full of fruity notes, fresh raspberry, wild strawberry, hints of violet and soft spices, generous mouth, charming, with a lot of intensity and brightness on the finish.

  • Robert Parker Wine Advocate 2015 91/100
    Inédite 2011

Seeing a slightly different elevage than the 2012, with the aging occurring in a mix of foudre, stainless steel and tronconique tanks, the 2011 Corbieres Inedite offers, again, terrific purity and freshness in its bouquet of black raspberries, dried herbs, licorice and cured meats, even with a touch of graphite. Showing the warmer nature of the vintage in its forward, seductively fruited personality, drink this beauty over the coming 4-5 years.

This was another terrific lineup from the Joyeux family and winemaker Julien Maurs.

Classique Rouge - La Cendrillon

Classique Rouge

    Essentielle 2016

Very, very roast-beef meaty on the nose. It's like opening the oven when the edges of that sirloin roast have just started to caramelise – if you're a carnivore, this smell would make your mouth water instantly! There's a sharp, earthy, red-fruitiness to the palate that tastes like a mélange of slowly oven-roasted tomatoes and mushrooms, sumac and ras al hanout spices, tamarind and strawberries. And there is leather. And dried thyme. Tannins that have the weathered crevasses of the hands of a man who has worked hard outdoors all his life. A kaleidoscope of fruit, acid, spice, tannin, leaf, earth, that comes together and tells a story.
